Summer 2025
Youth representatives connect, reflect and empower

By Ashley Carvalho | National Council Vice President - Youth
In October, the Spirit of Youth Committee met face-to-face in Melbourne, bringing together youth representatives from across the country to discuss youth membership and the youth programs happening across the St Vincent De Paul Society in Australia.
The gathering had a strong sense of purpose, with young leaders sharing ideas, experiences and the passion they bring to their local communities. Members spent time connecting, sharing insights, and strengthening the bonds that make national collaboration possible.
The committee looked at areas where youth engagement could be strengthened and the innovative ideas developing within local communities, while also setting future goals to empower young people across the country.
It was also a chance to welcome new youth representatives to the committee, adding fresh perspectives and renewed energy to the group’s work.
A large part of the meeting was devoted to reflection – looking back on the year’s achievements and the hundreds of young people supported through the Society’s programs. Many stories of impact were shared, echoing the example of founder Blessed Frédéric Ozanam and reminding everyone that local action continues to create big, lasting change.
The committee looked at how social media could be reimagined to reach more people, encourage greater involvement in the Society, and highlight the important contributions of young members across the country.
