Summer 2025
New research from Vinnies Victoria finds nearly nine in ten Australians (89 percent) are happy to receive a pre-loved gift, with three in four (76 percent) open to buying from op shops this Christmas.
The trend, popularly dubbed ‘Thriftmas,’ reflects a shift toward conscious gifting, as 87 percent of respondents say knowing their purchase supports vital community services makes them more likely to buy pre-loved.
With cost-of-living pressures high and 57 percent admitting to overspending on gifts, many Aussies now see pre-loved presents as a smart way to save money, reduce waste, and help fund essential services for people living in poverty.
