John Street, Yeppoon

John Street, Yeppoon

The St Vincent de Paul Society is proposing to build community housing at 78-84 John Street, Yeppoon, to help address the growing shortage of homes that local people can afford.

Yeppoon and the Livingstone Shire are experiencing significant housing pressure, with a local vacancy rate of just 0.7%. More people, including working locals, are struggling to find or keep an affordable place to live.

We also know that cost of living and housing are top of mind for locals, as the top concerns ranked in the 2025 Community Views Survey for Livingstone Shire Council.

Providing more community housing is one of the most effective ways to reduce housing stress and prevent homelessness, while supporting stable, connected communities.

Residents may include individuals and small households eligible for community housing, such as key workers, older people, and people on low incomes. All tenants will be assessed under established eligibility criteria with preference to those already connected to the area and local community.

The proposed development is for 60 community housing units, comprising 60 dwellings, with 44 one-bedroom units and 16 two-bedroom units.

The proposal is in the design stages, and is subject to further approvals and funding. Further information will be available as the planning progresses.

No, these homes will be made available for people in need of community housing. This may include someone experiencing homelessness as well as those who are currently housed but in need of alternative accommodation more suitable and affordable to their circumstance.

The John Street development will be indistinguishable from residential apartments, with a design and street appeal that’s sensitive to the usage of the local area. The homes will include a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments comprising of full kitchen, internal laundry, balconies, dining, living space and bedrooms.
