Meet Elizabeth, Stuart Park Store Manager
Retired after a long career in the NT Public Service in training and administration roles, Elizabeth wasn’t still for long. She joined Vinnies in 2019 as a volunteer, taking up the position of Store Manager at Stuart Park a few months later.
What do you love about your role?
Helping others, as Vinnies has done for so long. I wear the uniform with pride, as it means so much to me.
I think listening is my most important role here. Meeting people, hearing their stories of hardship, as well as the good times. People also love to share the stories behind the donations they drop off.
I love the volunteers I work with and make sure they feel appreciated, respected, and valued for the time, skills, knowledge and devotion they give freely.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Everyone knows I’m a crazy chicken lady. I have 22 altogether at present, six big hens, six silkies and ten chicks. I like to garden, with lots of herbs, veggies, and flowers that I share with neighbours and colleagues. And sewing for my grandkids and spending time with them.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
The power to wave a magic wand and have all my housework done.
And just for a little fun, what’s your favourite dessert?
Anything rich, chocolate, sweet and homemade.
