Why volunteer for the Compeer Friendship Program?
“I have a greater understanding of humanity at every level” – Compeer Volunteer
“My world had fallen apart and I felt deserted. My Compeer volunteer was a sudden light in a seemingly endless dark tunnel. These days I am so much better and she is a huge part of that.” – Person assisted by Compeer
- Are you over the age of 18?
- Are you friendly, accepting and looking for an enjoyable volunteer opportunity?
- Are you looking for a flexible volunteering opportunity that fits into your current lifestyle?
- Can you spare 4 hours a month for 12 months?
As a Compeer volunteer, you will be matched in a one-to-one friendship with a socially isolated adult living with a mental illness. You will meet together in a public setting and enjoy your planned social activities. Meetings occur on a regular basis, for a period of at least 12 months. This commitment allows you to build an authentic friendship and have a lot of fun in the process. You might enjoy a coffee and chat together, go to a sporting event, have lunch or a picnic, see a movie, or go to a Compeer Social event. It’s up to you both to decide.
Compeer volunteers come from all walks of life and beliefs and are friendly, emotionally mature people who want to make a difference. Compeer is an international award winning program with proven benefits. It offers a flexible volunteer opportunity that fits into your current lifestyle. You will receive training and ongoing support from the Compeer team through one-to-one contact and events that connect you with other volunteers in the Compeer family.
You will also make a new friend and have the opportunity to make a difference to someone’s quality of life. If you are interested in becoming a Compeer volunteer, please contact your nearest Compeer office.
