Two long-time Vinnies WA volunteers are proving that friendship is one of the great rewards of giving back to the community.

Sandy and Mercia first met 13 years ago while volunteering at the Vinnies Busselton shop and have since built a close bond grounded in fun, mutual support and good works.

Mercia, who has volunteered with Vinnies for 25 years across the Busselton shop and the adjacent Emergency Relief Support Centre, says keeping busy and connected is what keeps her coming back each week.

Sandy recalls being warmly welcomed by Mercia and fellow volunteer Dot and says their friendship helped her through a breast cancer diagnosis five years ago.

Although Dot sadly died from cancer three years ago, Sandy and Mercia continue to honour her memory and support each other through life’s ups and downs.

Vinnies WA celebrates their friendship and invites others to create lasting connections and make a difference in your local community by becoming a Vinnies volunteer.
