Wandjoo Bidi

Wandjoo Bidi is a low barrier supported accommodation service managed by Vinnies WA – and funded by the Department of Communities (Communities) – for people sleeping rough and experiencing homelessness in the Perth metropolitan area. It is part of the Vinnies’ Homelessness Services and of Vinnies Housing Plus programs.

Wandjoo Bidi is located at 718 Murray Street, West Perth, with the building and lot purchased by Communities in January 2023 to provide 30 rooms for up to 35 people that feature individual ensuite bathrooms, as part of a Housing First supported accommodation model.

To meet the complex needs of vulnerable people, and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and residents, the intake of all residents and referrals for Wandjoo Bidi is being managed through a Rough Sleeper Sleeper Coordination Group led by Communities in partnership with the WA Alliance to End Homelessness.

Wandjoo Bidi operates a Supportive Landlord Model. We will:

  • Provide safe, secure and stable accommodation
  • Provide flexible tenancy management
  • Work in a connected way with others to support the desired outcomes
  • Support people with complex needs to maintain their accommodation tenancies
  • Build strong partnerships with referral agencies and tenant supports.

On-site supports include:

  • Supporting tenants to encourage the development and/or increase their skills and build their capacity for independent living.
  • Supporting and advocating for tenants when issues arise in the tenancy and with case managers and other specialist services, using Housing First principles.
  • Supporting tenants to manage shared living spaces and residency dynamics in a congregated living setting through a trauma informed approach in conjunction with therapeutic intervention crisis techniques.
  • Actively assisting tenants to engage with other support services and advocating for Tenants where required.
  • Supporting the assessment and triage process for the service.
  • Providing emotional and psychological support to tenants when required.
  • Assisting in the upkeep of the site to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for the tenants.
