There’s one thing that can ruin Christmas for Queenslanders, and it doesn’t discriminate between who’s on the naughty or nice list.

With more than 60 per cent of Australians concerned that cost-of-living pressures are making it hard to look forward to the festive season*, the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland has been busy packing thousands of hampers to provide some much-needed Christmas cheer for those doing it tough.

More than 5,700 hampers were delivered across the state in 2024.

Brisbane Diocesan President, Maree Harmon, said that requests for help were continuing to increase across amid rising costs of housing and groceries.

“Thanks to the commitment and care of our volunteers and members, we’ve been able to provide essential services such as accommodation, food and companionship to over 35,000 people in our Brisbane community,” she said.

“For families who are struggling to survive from one day to the next, Christmas can be a time of stress and isolation but with community support, we can ensure every family experiences the joy and connection the festive season brings.”

"If you’re able to donate, every contribution this Christmas will help us continue our Good Works and provide a hand up to vulnerable people in urgent need of relief, support and a little bit of cheer.”

The Society has launched its Christmas Appeal to help fund food, emergency accommodation and essentials.
