Winter 2026

Matt Nunan, A National Council Vice President and Chair of the National Mission, Membership and Spirituality Standing Committee. He is also President of Rosalie and Red Hill Conference based in the inner north-western suburbs of Brisbane.

During a recent visit to the Redfern Vinnies Support Centre (VSC), I saw firsthand how this inner-Sydney hub is making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Arriving on a busy weekday morning, I was struck by the energy of the team preparing for a community morning tea, just one of many regular events that foster connection, dignity and support.

The Redfern VSC offers far more than a welcoming space. It brings together vital services, including housing and homelessness support, mental health assessments and access to Centrelink, all in one location. I also met Members of the Maternal Heart Conference, who continue a long tradition of outreach to people experiencing homelessness around Central Station, encouraging them to seek further support at the VSC.

What stands out is the strong collaboration between volunteers, students and Vincentians, alongside local Conferences that provide ongoing care. This integrated model is clearly working, and it was encouraging to hear that Vincentians from around Australia are looking to Redfern as a source of inspiration for similar initiatives.
