WA schools dig deep for 2025 Christmas Appeal
Vinnies WA’s Christmas Appeal has delivered strong engagement across schools this year, with a total of 130 schools taking part in this year’s festive fundraising efforts.
This showcases not just the power of generosity from school communities but also highlights a thirst from young people to give back to families in need.
In addition to general donations, schools also continued to make meaningful connections with Vinnies WA’s Conferences, which deliver emergency relief support to vulnerable individuals and families in the community.
These partnerships were thanks in part to the unwavering efforts of Youth Engagement Coordinator Hannah Taylor, who worked with Conference Members, schools, students, and teachers- including sharing a ‘School Christmas Appeals Kit’ to 190 teachers.
“Student connection to our work not only increases the support we can offer, but also helps to develop a sense of empathy towards those doing it tough,” Hannah said.
“We are grateful to the WA school community for continuing to walk in partnership with the Society.”
The Appeal is designed to connect students to real-life social issues by painting a raw and at times confronting picture of those who are doing it tough in the community. By encouraging young people build an understanding of the cost of living crisis and give back to others less fortunate, the Appeal also educates schools about the real-life challenges faced by many Australians, such as the cost-of-living crisis, housing stress, homelessness and food insecurity.
Among the schools to take part in the Appeal was Sacred Heart Primary School in Thornlie.
Thanks to the efforts of the school’s 24 dedicated Mini Vinnies, the packing and sorting of Christmas Hampers took less than 30 minutes, which saved Thornlie Conference President Trish Humphries and her assisting Members several hours of labour!
Well done to the Youth Engagement Team on growing school participation in this year’s appeal!
