Celebrating the strength, courage and resilience of women
March 8 was International Women's Day and for Vinnies WA it provided the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the wonderful women who work and volunteer across the organisation.
Each day, these amazing women share their compassion, dedication and empathy and are driven by a shared purpose – to help vulnerable people in need, many of whom are women.
Over the past year, nearly 70 per cent of clients who were supported through Vinnies WA’s Emergency Relief program, which includes assistance with food, clothing, living expenses and payment of overdue bills, were female.
Of the households supported with Emergency Relief, one in four were occupied by single mothers with children.
“On International Women’s Day, I honour the extraordinary women in our organisation. Your compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our community inspire me every day," Vinnies WA CEO Ann Curran said.
"At Vinnies WA, we witness and celebrate the strength, resilience and leadership of women in our communities.
"In our pursuit of a more just and compassionate society, our work is a commitment to ensuring every woman feels seen, heard and supported."
Vinnies core mission connects to this year's theme, Give to Gain, which emphasises the power of reciprocity and support we provide vulnerable women in need through our services every day.
As the costs of living continue to rise, there has never been greater need for the support we provide, and we believe that ‘women supporting women’ underpins the ‘good works’ we do for the WA community every single day.
"In providing access to essential services, emergency assistance or safe spaces to regroup and grow, we stand beside women as they overcome barriers and pursue their goals," Ms Curran said.
"When women thrive, families thrive, and entire communities are stronger for it."
