To celebrate the inaugural World Op Shop Day on 18 October, Vinnies Queensland has announced a massive two-day sale and revealed Queensland’s biggest ‘Op Shop Hot Spots’.
Regional Queensland shoppers were the state’s biggest second-hand treasure hunters, with Townsville listed as the most popular op-shop destination, followed by Toowoomba, Rockhampton and Hervey Bay.
Regardless of location, every Queenslander will benefit from the upcoming state-wide “Every 3rd Item Free” sale, held at local Vinnies Queensland Shops on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 October.
The free item will be the lowest-priced item, and the offer excludes barcoded items and gift cards.
Vinnies Queensland will be one of many op-shops joining in the World Op Shop Day celebrations, as the inaugural event shines a light on the vital role op shops play in local communities.
Drew Eide, Vinnies Queensland General Manager – Operations, said from reducing landfill and encouraging sustainable fashion to funding essential community services, there was a lot to celebrate at your local op-shop.
“This is more than just a shopping event; it’s about celebrating a century of impact. When you shop at Vinnies, you’re not just finding unique, affordable pieces – you’re helping fund housing, food and support services for Queenslanders facing the housing and cost-of-living crisis.
“Plus, there’s the thrill of the hunt, you never know what treasure you might find.”
Mr Eide added: “We’re seeing more Queenslanders discover the joy of op shopping, whether to save money, reduce their environmental footprint, or simply find something unique. Supporting your community can be as simple as shopping, donating quality goods or volunteering your time at your local Vinnies.”
