For many of us, our school years are the best years of our lives, but for others who face the challenges of poverty or disadvantage, it can be a difficult time.
Encouraging students in schools to look out for each other and to help those who may be in need in their community is an important aspect to working together as a community to shape a more just and compassionate society. Giving children the opportunity to experience the positive impact of care, compassion, and right actions to make a difference in our world, helps work towards a better future for all.
How to get involved
If you want to provide your school students with opportunities to get involved and support the good works of Vinnies in the Northern Territory, call us to find out what is available in your area. Some activities students can engage in include:
-
Community service and volunteer programs
- Assist a Student program, supporting students in East Timor
- Supporting appeals and other fundraising events.
Students living their faith
In some areas of the Territory our local conferences support age appropriate programs for students to live their faith. We encourage students to do this through ‘See’ (education and awareness), ‘Think’ (formation and reflection) and ‘Do’ (taking action).
The Mini Vinnies program is designed for primary aged students, while our College Conference program is designed for secondary aged students.
To find out more about these programs contact our Youth Coordinator at admin@svdpnt.org.au who can provide you with information, resources, and support to help your school and students to get involved
