Families move in to Wollert townhouses

The first families have just moved into their beautiful new homes in Wollert, with the rest moving in in the next few months.

Delivered in partnership with Homes Victoria as part of the Big Housing Build, Development Victoria and St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria through its subsidiary VincentCare Community Housing are building nine new townhouses as part of the Habitas Aurora master planned community in Wollert.

To mark the occasion, Group CEO of St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald AM and Deputy Chair of VincentCare Community Housing Board Jenny Roche were shown through some of the new townhouses that are complete or just-about-complete by Ray Kelleher, St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria’s Executive General Manager of Housing & Property Strategy.

The townhouses are being built by SOHO Living and Metricon and are part of a larger development of close to 90 townhouses.

St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria, through VincentCare Community Housing, is providing these nine townhouses as homes for families, particularly single parents with young children, that have been waiting on the priority list for social housing.

The Habitas Aurora townhouses are efficiently designed with increased insulation, with some sustainable inclusions such as skylights and double glazing. By using less energy to maintain a comfortable year-round temperature, the new residents will be able to minimise their carbon footprint and save on energy bills.

The townhouses are next to a conservation reserve with River Red Gums and logs that provide habitat for birds, lizards, frogs and possums. A shopping centre with a supermarket is just across the way, with a childcare centre and school just a few minutes’ walk away. With safe and secure garages, spacious living area, backyard and all the modern conveniences, these are places for the new residents to not just rebuild their lives, but to thrive.
