Prayer cards

St Vincent de Paul Society now has two Prayer Cards, offered as options that can be adapted to the needs of our Conferences.

Part 3 Article 3 of The Rule outlines what is required for the prayers:

Conference meetings begin and end with the Society prayers, or other appropriate prayers, but a prayer to the Holy Spirit, the Lord's Prayer, the Hail Mary and a prayer for those suffering that members nominate are obligatory. A period of spiritual reflection should also be included.

The International Statues also indicate what is required for prayer at Conference meetings:

B.R.5.A  A Conference meeting always includes the following:

Opening and closing prayers, formal and spontaneous. A prayer to the Holy Spirit, the Lord's Prayer, the Hail Mary and a prayer for those whose suffering they wish to share are obligatory.

The revised Society prayers came about because of a desire to promote prayer and reflection at meetings while being inclusive of new members who may be less familiar with some of the traditional prayers. An Acknowledgement of Country has been incorporated into the revised prayers.
