A Joint Campaign by the St Vincent de Paul Society and the Catholic Alliance for People Seeking Asylum (CAPSA)
Australia is at a crossroads. As the 2025 Federal Election approaches, the St Vincent de Paul Society and the Catholic Alliance for People Seeking Asylum (CAPSA) have joined forces to call for a more humane, just, and sustainable approach to supporting people who seek safety on our shores. We are proud to share a joint advocacy effort that supports our broader campaign, Justice and Compassion.
Together, we are calling on all political candidates and parties to support compassionate, evidence-based policies that restore dignity, fairness and humanity to our refugee and asylum system.
Our Joint Calls to Action
We are calling on the next Australian Government to:
- End the Uncertainty for People Seeking Asylum
Grant permanent protection to all those who remain in limbo due to temporary visa regimes and the now-defunct 'fast track' process.
- Ensure Access to Work, Study, and Essential Public Services
Reinstate access to healthcare, education, income support and other basic services for people seeking asylum.
- End Offshore Detention and Processing
Close Australia's offshore detention regime once and for all and bring all remaining individuals in PNG and Nauru to safety.
- Increase Australia's Humanitarian Intake and Expand Community Support
Raise the annual humanitarian intake to at least 27,000 places by 2027–28 and expand the community sponsorship program by an additional 10,000 places annually.
