Recognising Frances

Discovering volunteering almost by accident

"Volunteering has taught me that giving my time can benefit others in need and it's great for my wellbeing."

Frances discovered volunteering almost by accident. "I witnessed other people volunteering at my workplace and this inspired me to do the same," she says. Nearly three years later, that spark of inspiration has grown into something much deeper.

Frances splits her time between our Education Program and retail work at a Vinnies Shop. The variety keeps her engaged, but it's the children in our education programs who truly capture her heart. "I love helping other people, especially children," she explains.

What strikes you about Frances is how clearly she sees the ripple effects of her work. She talks about that pivotal moment when she realised her efforts were making a real difference. It wasn't dramatic or flashy, just the quiet recognition that showing up matters.

"Volunteering has taught me that giving my time can benefit others in need," Frances reflects. But she's discovered something else valuable too: community. "There are like minded people that share the same vision of volunteering."

Frances has become something of a volunteer recruiter herself. "Encouraging others to do the same gives you a good feeling," she says with obvious enthusiasm. She understands that volunteering isn't just about what you give, it's about what you receive in return.

"Volunteering is great for my wellbeing," Frances adds, and you can see why. She's found purpose, connection and the deep satisfaction that comes from knowing your time creates change.

During National Volunteer Week, Frances represents thousands of Vinnies volunteers who quietly transform lives simply by showing up.
