After reading an article in The Age about homelessness, Steve was moved to volunteer at Ozanam House, which has supported people in Melbourne since 1953 with accommodation, a Homelessness Resource Centre, and over 80,000 meals annually.
A former teacher, Steve makes it a point to learn a new name each week, listening to powerful stories of resilience and ensuring the centre remains welcoming and respectful.
Inspired by St Vincent de Paul Society founder Frederic Ozanam, Steve feels part of a legacy of hope.
“The heart feels full and it’s constantly being challenged,” he says, always wondering if he can do more.
For him, volunteering isn’t just about service—it’s about connection, community, and believing in the goodness within everyone’s heart.
Steve’s dedication reminds us that even small acts of kindness can transform lives.
