Meet Kate

A better future awaits

Conference members provide Kate with the essential support needed to move forward to a better future.
Kate was supported by our conference members

Kate is a 35-year-old single woman living locally in Ringwood. She doesn’t have any family or much support and, to make matters worse, is about to lose her flat mate which will put more financial pressure on her.

Several conference members have visited Kate and are always impressed with her humility and gratitude for the support she receives from the Ringwood North Conference.

Kate works part-time as an Uber driver. Unfortunately, it’s not regular work, it doesn’t pay well and it’s late at night. Her hopes are to find more permanent and secure employment, namely by completing a Certificate 111 course in Individual Support (Aging & Disability).

However, to complete the course, Kate needed help with the course fees and an updated laptop.

As they say timing is everything. At a recent conference meeting, a new member and donor who provides non-perishable food and toys for Christmas hampers, heard about Kate’s situation and decided to help by purchasing a laptop for her.

When the laptop was delivered, Kate was left speechless and extremely grateful for the support she received, knowing that this gift was the first step in making her dream of secure employment come true.

The next step to assist Kate was to assist with the course fees. Following negotiation with the TAFE College, even the discounted fee seemed out of reach. However, the conference had received a bequest from a long-standing local supporter who instructed that this money be used to assist education expenses. So, it was agreed that, in this instance, a portion of this specific bequest would contribute to help Kate with the course fees.

Today, Kate has commenced the course and is thoroughly enjoying it.

“It’s a dream come true, and I can’t thank the volunteers who supported me enough. They have invested in my future, and I won’t let them down,” said Kate
