"After things in my life nearly fell apart, reaching out for help wasn’t easy but joining the Client Volunteer Program at Ozanam House made a real difference. I found the people here are more approachable, which made it easier to ask for support when I needed it," said Travis.
Being a part of the team helped Travis understand people in a deeper way and realise that homelessness is not something to overlook – the people experiencing it are just like anyone else. This shift in perspective has been life-changing for me.
The Client Volunteer Program team gave Travis a sense of belonging, something he hadn’t felt in a long time.
"It boosted my confidence and made me feel part of something bigger. Having a bit of structure in my week helped me start preparing to re-enter the workforce. It also helped me learn how to work alongside others in a more respectful and considered way."
The program has accessible ongoing training which Travis rates as 'fantastic' and also offers small social catch-ups that, along the way, made it all the more meaningful.
"Looking back, this experience has played a big part in helping me fine-tune my skills and become a more grounded, functional person. I’d highly recommend this program to others – it’s been a transformative step in my journey, and I’m grateful for the opportunity," Travis concludes.
