Footscray - Almost ready

The Big Housing Build in Footscray is almost completed.

A total of 92 brand-new apartments in the heart of Footscray will be ready for residents to move in within a few short months. The $53.3 million project was funded by Homes Victoria through the Big Housing Build and delivered in partnership with the St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria's housing provider, VincentCare Community Housing.

Recently, the Group CEO of St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria, Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald, toured the Footscray site with Homes Victoria CEO Simon Newport and representatives from Affordable Housing Solutions and the builders LU Simon.

The building is a few short weeks away from being completed and just a few short months shy of opening its doors to Victorians, including families, in desperate need of safe and secure housing. The building and fittings are high-quality, with builders LU Simon proud to contribute to this purpose-built, high-quality project.

The 18-storey building has stunning views over Footscray and Flemington racecourse and is just minutes away from the Footscray market, a playground, Footscray train stations and shops.

The complex includes one, two and three-bedroom homes, plus an office and resident support space on the ground floor. It’s anticipated that residents will begin moving into their apartments in June.

The new residents will include singles and couples who receive the Aged, Disability or Jobseeker payments, singles with between one and three children who receive Parenting payments and couples with one or two children who receive Jobseeker payments. A minimum of 10% of the new housing will be allocated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Victorians.

St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria and its subsidiary VincentCare Community Housing are trusted partners of Homes Victoria and the Victorian Government.

St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria Group CEO Jennifer Fitzgerald said, “We aren’t just in the business of building homes; we’re in the business of building communities.  We believe that building communities is key to our mission of reducing homelessness.”

“We know that a house is more than just bricks and mortar; it's a stable, secure, and safe place that supports our well-being and shapes our self-worth,” she said.

“The new residents will live in brand new housing that provide stability for individuals, couples, and families, allowing them to stay in one location, pursue education and employment opportunities, and form lasting connections within their community.”
