Bethlehem House

Bethlehem House

Bethlehem House is a 24-hour service centre for homeless men in central Hobart. Bethlehem House is the largest centre in Tasmania for men experiencing homelessness. We are the only crisis accommodation centre that focuses solely on the needs of men in Hobart and we provide a communal setting for up to 30 men, with a mix of single and double bedrooms with shared bathrooms. Bethlehem House offers crisis accommodation, medium to long-term semi-supported accommodation, and some support services to non-residents. Bethlehem House is a special work of the St Vincent de Paul Society, and has been operating continuously since 1973. Men entering Bethlehem House become engaged in a supportive program of case management during their residency as we seek to rebuild skills and nurture re-entry into the community.

Who can access the services on offer?

Bethlehem House caters for men aged 20 and older who are experiencing disadvantage and homelessness or who are at risk of experiencing homelessness. Bethlehem House also provides support services to non-residents, subject to assessment. Non-residents can access the House to have showers, do their laundry and purchase meals.

Where is the Bethlehem House located?

Bethlehem House is located at 56 Warwick Street, Hobart in Tasmania.

Who benefits from the services?

Bethlehem House works with men experiencing disadvantage and homelessness or who are at risk of experiencing homelessness (including sole fathers and their children). We are recognised and valued as a centre for the wellbeing of all men experiencing social disadvantage.
