Statement regarding Vinnies Women's Crisis Centre

Statement
28/04/2024

Established in 2017, to date the Vinnies Women’s Crisis Centre has provided short-term emergency
accommodation for more than 5,000 women, children and companion animals who are experiencing
homelessness, most often as a result of domestic violence. To ensure guests’ safety, the location of
the Centre is not disclosed.

Staff at the Centre work closely with a range of agencies that are responsible for the provision of case
management and advocacy support to guests.

From time to time, a guest may be required to leave the Centre due to drug and alcohol misuse,
behavioural issues, or disclosure of the Centre’s location to a known domestic violence perpetrator.
This decision is not made lightly and occurs after seeking instruction from the relevant managing
agency which will then seek alternative accommodation for their client.

Vinnies remains committed to supporting people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence in
an environment that is safe for all guests, their children, staff and volunteers.
