Work experience Options

The Society offers various placements within its services for secondary and tertiary students. Students must be over 14 years of age and a minimum commitment of 12 hours is required.

Types of work experience roles include;
Retail Assistant and Donation Sorter - sorting donations, register and assisting with general retail duties.
Administration - filing, scanning, naming documents, collating materials, some database work and other general office duties.
Kitchen - helping with the preparation of breakfast and lunches at Blue Door in Ainslie Village. You must be over 18 years old.
Community Room at Oaks Estate or Reid Estate - provide support to people using the community room. Tasks include: accessing the computer, listening and possible driving. You must be over 18 years old.
Community Room Cooks (Oakes Estate) - Tasks include: assisting with the cooking project and preparing a meal with the residents for the Friday lunchtime meal in the community courtyard. You must be over 18 years old. This occurs on Friday, business hours.

One off work experience opportunities

February 2017 Doorknock Appeal - The Appeal runs from 1-28 February and is a great flexible one off (2-3 hours) opportunity. To get involved email doorknock@svdp-cg.org.au with your name, contact number and the suburb you would like to doorknock in. Please invite your family and friends to do this with you. We also have collection table opportunities in Canberra’s major shopping centres. The success of this appeal is directly linked to the number of people who help with our doorknock appeal.

Summer work experience - Vinnies is looking for short-term work experience people between 1 December 2017 - 31 January 2018 to help sort the huge number of donations received during the summer period. We are looking for people in both ACT and our country/coast surrounding regions. Click here for a list of our retail centres. Your efforts will assist us raise more funds to support our homeless community.
