Bernhard Centre

Located in Katherine, we offer housing for families on a large garden block. The Bernhard Centre provides accommodation for up to 39 singles, couples or families. The housing on offer comprises one and two bedroom unfurnished units.

Living at the Bernhard Centre

The accommodation is provided across two blocks. In addition, there is a Community Hall onsite which provides the environment to create a sense of community while living at the Bernhard Centre.

All our tenants at the Bernhard Centre sign a tenancy agreement and are asked to abide by the responsibilities and rights outlined in the agreement to maintain their tenancy.

If you are unclear about your rights and responsibilities to maintain your tenancy, you are encouraged to speak to your Tenancy Worker who is always happy to explain.

Please remember the basics for living in our housing - pay your rent on time, respect the quiet enjoyment of those living around you and do not cause damage to the property.

More than just a roof

Our experience working with people in need of housing has taught us that having a stable place to live is an important first step. But it is just the first step.

Having support from community networks and specialist support agencies can make all the difference to how well you, your partner or your family live in your new place.

While we do not provide case management at the Bernhard Centre, many residents living at the Bernhard Centre are receiving case management support from other community agencies.

Whether tenants are receiving support or not, our Tenancy Worker can offer residents information, referrals and opportunities to get involved and develop skills that may be supportive in sustaining a safe and stable tenancy.

Our Tenancy Worker can link you to support agencies that can help you develop skills and provide support such as health, financial or legal services.

The Bernhard Centre offers medium term or Transitional Housing only, so while you are living here you are encouraged to continue to develop skills and opportunities to improve your prospects to secure other longer term housing.
