St Vincent de Paul Society NSW has launched the Vinnies NSW Flood Appeal to support people across the NSW North Coast who have been impacted by flooding.

NSW’s North Coast has yet again been devastated by severe flooding following extreme rainfall. From the Central Coast to Coffs Harbour, the relentless rainfall has local communities reeling.

People are isolated and trapped, others have lost their homes and livestock. The Vinnies NSW Flood Appeal is seeking urgent financial donations to provide immediate assistance to impacted people, as well as longer-term recovery support.

“This flooding is devastating and a further blow for communities already impacted by previous natural disasters. The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW is ready to support affected communities in their time of need,” said Yolanda Saiz, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW CEO.

“The most effective way to support communities impacted by flooding is through financial donations to the Vinnies NSW Flood Appeal. The damage caused by severe weather makes the transportation of goods challenging at this time and financial assistance enables us to respond to their individual needs,” said Ms Saiz.

As flood waters recede over the coming days, Vinnies NSW members and volunteers will be present in recovery centres distributing immediate assistance with grocery vouchers and financial relief.

Members will also be conducting mobile outreach through our Vinnies Vans to affected communities that are unable to reach recovery centres in-person. This aid will include food, water, sleeping bags, sanitary and hygiene packs, along with emotional support.

Vinnies NSW homelessness hubs including the Matthew Talbot in Newcastle and Pete’s Place in Coffs Harbour will be providing shelter, food, clothing and other basic supplies to people experiencing homelessness in the region.

The funds raised through the Vinnies NSW Flood Appeal will enable Vinnies members and services to offer support beyond the immediate aftermath of the floods, including financial assistance, referrals to specialist services and other wrap-around supports.

“Natural disasters have long lasting impacts. The support provided through the Vinnies NSW Flood Appeal will enable us to respond now, as well as over the longer-term. If you are able to, please donate to the Vinnies NSW Flood Appeal,” said Peter Houweling, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW State President.

Donations can be made by calling 13 18 12, at www.vinnies.org.au/floodappealnsw or at any Vinnies NSW Shop. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
