The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW is calling on the community to give a gift of generosity this Christmas through a donation to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal.
With the countdown to Christmas well underway, the Society NSW is preparing to lend a helping hand by delivering approximately 10,000 food hampers and presents over the coming weeks.
Donations to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal will allow Society NSW members to reach households across the state, bringing joy and Christmas cheer at a time when many are struggling with cost-of-living pressures.
A recent survey* commissioned by the Society shows two in five people across NSW are concerned about being able to provide food during the festive season. While one in three people anticipate needing to seek financial or community assistance in the lead up to Christmas.
“So many households are struggling right now to afford the basics, let alone thinking about celebrating Christmas,” said Yolanda Saiz, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW CEO.
“It’s concerning that more people are relying on charities not just in moments of crisis, but as essential, week-to-week support simply to get by.
“Funds from the Vinnies Christmas Appeal provide year-round assistance, but they are especially critical now, when the festive season brings added pressure and isolation for many in the community,” said Ms Saiz.
The Society has over 4,200 members located in communities across NSW providing assistance with food, clothing, household bills, unexpected expenses and offering emotional support in times of hardship.
Over 220,000 people have been supported by the Society NSW in the past year through its members, Vinnies Vans, and services – including more than 100,000 supported by its members across the state.
“Every donation will help our members bring a little light and love into lives this Christmas,” said Peter Houweling, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW State President.
“The Christmas season is one of family, warmth and kindness. It is a time of giving and receiving with gratitude and compassion.
“Your kindness can place gifts beneath the tree, bring a family together around a shared meal, and most importantly remind them that they are not alone.
“Even the smallest act of generosity can touch a family’s heart and offer comfort and hope when it’s needed most,” said Mr Houweling.
