The Vinnies Service Medallion (VSM) is an initiative developed by the St Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Society NSW which caters for secondary students. The VSM enhances students’ knowledge regarding key social justice issues and provides practical opportunities through volunteering that align to meet the needs of their community. To reflect our commitment to equity, the VSM is available for all school students free of charge.
The VSM aims to enhance students’ knowledge regarding key social justice issues and provides a platform for students to demonstrate their strengths beyond the classroom, increasing employment and university admission prospects.
That all young people are afforded equal opportunities and are not limited by their geographic, socio-economic, or religious backgrounds.
The VSM seeks to mitigate socio-economic disparities and welcomes students from diverse backgrounds to participate.
The VSM will be a recognition pathway for secondary students to be admitted into tertiary education. This will be done by acknowledging students’ soft skill competencies such as volunteering, engaging in community service and advocating for social justice issues.
To foster a culture of civic responsibility and service by recognising the strengths of young people as leaders of social change.
To deepen students understanding of social injustices and enhance their capacity to act with compassion, whilst also providing tangible outcomes for broader communities.
