Experience the heartfelt music: St Vincent de Paul Society NSW launches album celebrating the sound of inclusivity

The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW is proud to announce the launch of "Alternate Voices", the latest album produced through the Ozanam Learning Centre (OLC), our community inclusion service in Woolloomooloo. The launch event will take place on 27 July 2023 at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville.

Featuring twelve original songs composed by the OLC Music Collective, "Alternate Voices" delves into the personal stories, aspirations, and growth of the band members who are all the participants of the OLC music program. It is the third album recorded at OLC's music studio as part of the OLC music program which provides pathways for people assisted by the Society NSW who are interested in exploring and expanding their musical talents.

"We’ve been running the OLC music program for over ten years now, allowing people we assist to continue their music education and equipping them with valuable skills to reach their purpose in life. This socially inclusive program also focuses on developing valuable communication skills within a collaborative setting”, explained Omar Abidin, Activities Coordinator at OLC.

Being part of the band has given lead singer Gaby a shared purpose and a sense of connection with other group members and the wider community.

"We are dealing with different challenges, but we all share the need for food, company, and socialising. I look forward to coming to the music program every week and feeling like I belong," said Gaby.

"The album celebrates the talent within the OLC community. It means a lot to us it means a lot to us to be able to express ourselves and be heard," she said. 

Yolanda Saiz, CEO of St Vincent de Paul Society NSW, said that the album launch resonates with the goal of the community inclusion service, to empower individuals and nurture their potential.

"We are incredibly proud of the OLC Music Collective and their dedication in channelling their unique personal journey in life into music."

The Alternate Voices album launches on 27 July 2023, at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville. The OLC Music Collective will perform alongside guest artists Sydney Street Choir and Groovepilot.
