The St Vincent de Paul Society NSW is proud to present the inaugural Art for Goodness Sake auction. Raising critical funds for the Society’s homelessness services, the auction will feature 26 artworks donated by leading businesses in sectors spanning law, banking, mining, finance, property, telecommunications and art.

The Society has teamed up with renowned Art Advisor, Catherine Asquith, to curate a visually engaging collection of Contemporary Australian Art. Catherine’s extensive experience of the art market has allowed her to identify corporate entities and art galleries across Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

“There is a long-standing tradition of corporates curating art collections for their offices, which have often been procured over many years. We saw an opportunity to harness the legacy of these collections to create an inventory of artworks that could be auctioned off to raise vital funds for homelessness services,” explained Catherine Asquith, Principal Advisor and Director of Catherine Asquith Art Advisory.

The soaring cost of living and lack of affordable housing is driving a growing number of people to seek assistance in their time of need. The Society is seeing firsthand the consequences of the crises, with the demand for assistance increasing by 4.9% over the past year.

Funds raised through the auction will go directly towards services that assist people experiencing homelessness, including accommodation, food, health care, case management and assistance tailored to individual needs.

“We’re delighted to present the Art for Goodness Sake auction and thank all the corporations who have generously donated artworks. The Society relies on the good-will of the community and our corporate partners to raise much-needed funds to meet the increasing demand for assistance,” said Ms Saiz.

“This is a tangible way for corporations and art collectors to give back, with 100% of proceeds from the auction being donated towards our homelessness programs,” says Yolanda Saiz, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW CEO.

The new fundraising initiative is being facilitated by Leonard Joel Fine Art, Australia’s premier auction house. Specialising in curated category auctions as well as the auction of Private Collections, Leonard Joel is generously donating both their services and Sydney saleroom within the renowned The Bond in Woollahra, to host the auction.

Highlights from the sale include Lot 2 “The Hunger” by Doug Moran Winner (2022) and prominent Australian figurative artist, Graeme Drendel; Lot 10 “Stickman #5” by highly collectible Brisbane-based photomedia artist of Bidjara heritage, Michael Cook; Lot 3 “Untitled” a large black and white gestural work on paper by Australian-born artist of South African and Mauritian descent, Newell Harry; Lot 7 “Four Dreamings” by winner of the prestigious Hadley’s Art Prize (2019), and a finalist in the Vincent Lingiari Art Award (2019), Papunya artist, Carbiene McDonald Tjangala; and Lot 18 “Branch No 3” by global sensation bird portrait photographer and video artist Leila Jeffreys.
