“Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.”

- John Allen Paulos

The three most common types of natural disasters faced by Victorians are bushfire, drought and floods.

The St Vincent de Paul Society's large network of members and volunteers are able to provide coordinated assistance to areas affected by natural disasters when required.

We are here to assist as the disaster unfolds but also well after it occurs.

Bushfire

We are here to help during difficult times

In Victoria, bushfires are part of our lives and each summer season we hold our breath and hope to not have to live through this experience. While bushfires are a natural, essential and complex part of our environment, they significantly impact our lives, property and the environment. The St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria are here to help during these difficult times.

Drought

We are here to help during difficult times

In Victoria, periods of drought significantly occur when an area or region, usually affecting our farmers, experience below-normal precipitation. The lack of adequate water to an area, either through rain or snow, reduces the soils moisture resulting in water shortages for the maintenance of farming of livestock or crops. The St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria are here to help during these difficult times.

Flood

We are here to help during difficult times

In Victoria, floods are often caused by heavy rainfall to a specific area and their impact are far-reaching for communities and individuals in an area. The immediate impacts of flooding include loss of life, property damage, destruction of crops, loss of livestock, and potentially health conditions due to waterborne diseases.
