Meet Peta, Vinnies Alice Springs store manager
Peta began as a volunteer with Vinnies in Darwin in late 2018 and after deciding on a seachange, moved to Alice Springs to manage the Vinnies store in mid-2019.
Many, many years ago as a young mum with 5 kids, Peta had experienced the wonderful support Vinnies can provide in times of need. Peta always knew she wanted to give back when the opportunity arose, so volunteering with Vinnies was a no brainer.
What do you love about your role?
Everything. Helping the community and knowing that every pre-loved item we sell helps to reduce the carbon footprint.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Sew and knit to create items to put back on the shop floor. I’ll take home wool that has been donated and then knit a child’s jumper or crochet a blanket to sell. Or I’ll cut up donated clothes that haven’t sold, bits of wool, sequins, whatever I can lay my hands on, and sew them into really interesting tote bags to sell. And when I’m not creating for the store, I love spending ‘family’ time.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
To have the ability to look at something and see the potential in it. To think outside the box and see what else is possible.
And just for a little fun, what’s your favourite dessert?
