Making Christmas special for people in need is what Casey Young Vinnies do. So, with their usual spirit of helping, the team organised their ‘Christmas Raffle Bonanza’.
Beginning with running their own fundraising event, a raffle with donated goods from local businesses, that helped them buy a variety of gifts. Then each gift was wrapped, decorated and personalised with a handwritten card.
Two shifts were needed. A morning team followed by the Berwick Soup Van who gave out care hampers to people that accessed our service. While the second shift took the personalised gifts to each family whose children attend the Casey Young Vinnies programs. Another 100 hampers were also made and distributed to families.
Casey Young Vinnies President, Arnhie San Juan said, "We could never have expected 2020 to bring the number of hurdles that it did but we knew that more than ever we had to do something for Christmas this year.
“It was months of planning in advance, creating a dedicated Christmas team and a lot of early mornings and late nights to bring these hampers to life. We are so thankful to all our volunteers who worked tirelessly to help raise over $6,500 for these hampers and those who did the ground work to buy the items and packed these hampers. We know that it is only a small gesture but we just hope that it brings a smile to their faces given what a tumultuous year we have all had."
The delivery teams were indeed met with so many excited, happy and grateful faces! Some kids opened their gifts outside with the team while others came outside super excited to show off their gifts.
Casey Young Vinnies would like to thank all of their donors, supporters and volunteers. Working with artists and local businesses this year was a dream and it is hoped that this was just the beginning of a new and beautiful partnership.
