In 1975 the first soup van service was established by dedicated university students and it has been operating ever since. Run almost exclusively by volunteers, the Vinnies Soup Vans operate at various locations in metropolitan and regional Victoria providing meals, hampers, friendship and support to people experiencing poverty and homelessness.
With a shared meal our soup van volunteers, known affectionately as Vannies, create an environment for regular, face-to-face conversations, which can help people experiencing crisis to survive, recover and ultimately regain their independence.
