Homelessness & COVID

A new Tough Questions guide focusing on how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted homelessness in Victoria is now available.

Homelessness is defined as when a person doesn't have a safe, permanent living arrangement. Sadly, every night 116,000 are homeless across Australia, including 17,000 children under the age of 12.

For many, homelessness can be a prolonged circumstance, including sleeping on the streets, moving between temporary places or living in crowded or unsafe dwellings. Here, in Victoria, homelessness affects everyone – adults, families children – from Melbourne’s CBD to the suburbs and country towns.

Vinnies has been helping vulnerable Victorians for more than 165 years, and Tough Questions highlights how Vinnies Victoria and our network of volunteers have adapted to continue to provide a compassionate hand up during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The guide aims to help people understand the challenges that vulnerable communities face, learn what’s being done to help and asks the reader to consider what more they can do to help.
