Recent evidence suggests the number of homeless people sleeping rough in the streets of our major cities each night is growing rather than sinking.

A recent report by the St Vincent de Paul Society The Ache for Home estimates that more than 100,000 people are homeless in Australia and 875,000 households are experiencing housing stress.

This is despite the best efforts of governments, charities and philanthropic organisations that work in the area of homelessness.

Tonight on Sunday Nights, we ask what hope for the homeless in this Federal election year?

Guests in this hour
