With only a month to go until this year’s CEO Sleepout, Western Australia’s Dale Alcock is not only leading the fundraising tally board in WA but nationally, having already raised over $40,000.Dale Alcock

Dale Alcock, Managing Director of Australia’s leading construction, property and finance company the ABN Group, was last year’s top fundraiser contributing $134,000 to the overall tally.

In an innovative approach to raise funds Mr Alcock has given people who donate to his campaign, the opportunity to choose which onesie he wears at the Sleepout event, with many keen to see him turn his back on his beloved Dockers and don an Eagles onesie for the evening.

The CEO Sleepout event, which will be held in all capital cities on Thursday 19 June, calls on CEOs to raise awareness about the issue of homelessness while raising funds for Vinnies homeless services.

There are currently 107 business leaders signed on to take part in the 2014 Vinnies CEO Sleepout with St Vincent de Paul Society spokesperson Lucinda Ardagh keen to beat last year’s record of 108 participants and raise even more money for those doing it tough.

“Last year’s record of 108 participants managed to raise an incredible $1.1million for homelessness in WA and we are eager to improve on that this year,” Ms Ardagh said.

“We are saying it is time for action with currently 10,000 people experiencing homelessness in WA, and despite the stereotypes, the reality is that the majority of these people are under the age of 35 - people in the prime of their life who have become trapped in a cycle of disadvantage.

“This event is the biggest source of funding support for Vinnies homeless services and its success is vital to the Society’s work in homelessness and the community’s awareness in WA and across Australia,” Ms Ardagh said.

Some of WA’s most prominent business leaders have already signed on to take part including Barry Felstead from Crown Perth, Jan Stewart of Lotterywest, and iinet’s David Buckingham.
