This Friday local school students are stepping up to help Vinnies help homeless youth.

StepUp Swampathon 2014 (sponsored by Sanzone Retail Group) is a new initiative involving students from Sacred Heart College and Our Lady of Grace Primary School, coming together to walk or run Star Swamp in North Beach.

In registering, students are required to donate a pair of new socks to support Vinnies to help homeless youth.

St Vincent de Paul Society, Project Manager Niall Rhatigan helps many young people who are doing it tough.

“The first thing you look at is their feet and this can often tell us the story.” Niall said.

450 Sacred Heart College and Our Lady of Grace students from year 5 to 8, will be part of the inaugural StepUp Swampathon, with a number of other schools interested in taking part next year.

Professional athletes and sport role models have also volunteered to join the students as they make their way through the Star Swamp route. The first runners will leave at 1pm and presentations will be at 2.15pm.

This event is part of the StepU4Kids program, where local business supports local schools, supporting local charity.
