A recent article in the West Australian Newspaper and Kalgoorlie Miner centred on the Red Cross dropping its Emergency relief service in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region.
Vinnies provides considerable emergency assistance throughout the Goldfields and any increases in demand in the area, will put pressure on what is already limited resources.
Carl Prowse, Vinnies Executive Manager of Social Enterprise spoke on the ABC Radio Kalgoorlie Breakfast program about how critical Vinnies presence in the town is for people seeking assistance in the Goldfields community.
He also discussed the Vinnies Kalgoorlie shop, which has been servicing the Goldfields region for many years. The shop has been has been under strain in recent months due to a lack of volunteers which has resulted in reduced shopping hours and opening times. Ultimately, if the shop’s capability is reduced in anyway, this can impact on the emergency assistance and services Vinnies can provide to the community.
