The St Vincent de Paul Society is grateful to be receiving a Lotterywest Grant of $800,000 towards its Emergency Relief program.

St Vincent de Paul Society CEO Mark Fitzpatrick said that last year the Society’s emergency relief Call Centre volunteers answered 29,950 calls from individuals and families seeking assistance.

“Through the Emergency Relief Program volunteers assist families and individuals with food, material aid, clothing, assistance with utility bills, rent and family support,” Mr Fitzpatrick said.

“Last year 86% of requests were for food which is a concerning statistic,” he said.

“Vinnies volunteers provide this support through our unique home visitation program which helps us assess people’s potential ongoing needs as well as offering encouragement and hope.

“We aim to respond to every genuine request for help, and this grant will help make that possible,” Mr Fitzpatrick said.

On Wednesday 27 January the Honourable Tony Simpson, MLA will formally present the Lotterywest grant to Vinnies staff and volunteers at their head office in Belmont.

CEO Mark Fitzpatrick says the funds will help volunteers provide assistance to people in need in their local communities in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.
