Many of our dedicated members have been responding locally to those who have been impacted by the bushfires across the state. The national scale of this event has highlighted the importance of our response to be consistent with the Societies of the other states affected.

100% of the money donated to Vinnies Victoria will go to people affected by bushfires, and we are getting help out to people as quickly as we can.

We have been responding by distributing food and fuel vouchers, sleeping bags, tents, clothing and emotional support to people affected by the Mallacoota and East Gippsland fires who have been coming into Bairnsdale relief centre, and now as the roads to affected towns are beginning to open we will expand our on-the-ground presence. We have also been active in the areas affected in the Upper Murray Region.

As we move into the next phase of recovery, we have set up a Bushfire Relief helpline – 13 18 12 – for people affected by the fires to receive the next round of funding for immediate financial assistance.

Who is eligible?

All callers who – as a result of the fires – have experienced:
•    Loss or damage to their property
•    Loss or damage of their belongings
•    Loss or impact to income/livelihood

What’s available?

•    A one off $1,000 relief payment (within 24 hours)
•    Additional payments of up to $3,000 for further assistance
•    A further $5,000 per household

Further assistance could be used for things such as getting your kids back to school, paying accommodation and bills, paying for livestock feed or tools or a loss of regular income. As we start to get more understanding of what’s needed we will respond accordingly.

Please help us spread the word. People affected by bushfires can reach us on our Bushfire Relief helpline: 13 18 12.
