She sat at the helm of an independent family-owned newspaper at a time when married women couldn’t even open their own bank account. 

The accolades followed thick and fast—Bulletin’s 1979 Business Woman of the Year, an Order of Australia, a Centenary Medal, 2007 Numurkah Citizen of the Year and carrying the Queen’s baton on its way to the Commonwealth Games.
