St Vincent de Paul Society in South Australia has launched a Bushfire Appeal today and is calling for financial donations to ensure prompt assistance to meet the immediate needs of those affected by the devastating Pinery bushfires.
St Vincent de Paul Society CEO, David Wark, explains that Vinnies is very thankful for the generous donations of material goods but would like to encourage people to make financial donations if they are able. Financial donations enable Vinnies to provide immediate crisis assistance in whatever form it is needed.
“This crisis has affected many people and what they need varies from person to person. Requests for assistance range from baby formula and nappies to petrol money so people can drive to somewhere safe to stay. Financial donations at this time are crucial so that we can provide immediate assistance to meet the community’s needs, whatever they may be,” Mr Wark said.
Vinnies has been overwhelmed by the support from the community and organisations such as Bank SA, Beyond Bank, IGA, Optus, NOVA Entertainment, FIVEaa, Woolworths Petrol, McDonalds, Foodbank and Shoeboxes of Love who immediately came on board to support South Australian communities affected by this this still unfolding tragic and heartbreaking event.
Mr Wark said that Vinnies will also provide a range of mid to long-term assistance for people affected by the bushfires. This is in addition to the State Government appeal.
“Part of our long-term assistance will include financial support, budget counselling, assistance with bills, food vouchers, and other material assistance such as furniture and clothing to support those affected by this tragic event.”
Donations to the Vinnies SA Bushfire Appeal can be made online at vinnies.org.au/sabushfireappeal at any Vinnies shops across the state or by calling Vinnies on 13 18 12. Anyone who has been affected by the bushfires and is suffering personal hardship or distress and is seeking assistance from Vinnies should visit the Gawler Recovery Centre at Gawler Recreation and Sports Club, Nixon Terrace, Gawler.
