The community and those facing or experiencing homelessness will have access to a range of vital services at the Homeless Connect event on Thursday 6 August at Quota Park.

Sunshine Coast Housing and Homelessness Network event organiser Annette Baker said the event was to raise awareness and provide access to services and support agencies in one location.

"This is a chance to meet with local services and support in an informal and relaxed environment, without the daily pressures to share information and advice.

"Anyone experiencing or at risk of homelessness will have access to housing services, legal advice, financial counselling, health services and other support agencies.

"Free haircuts, giveaways and meals will also be available.

"Everyone is welcome as we have some fun activities for all the family including face painting and jumping castles.

"Life can be tough for people with tight budgets stretched to cover all the bills and put food on the table.

"We want people in our community to know that they are not alone and there are services and groups right here to turn to during hardship," she said.

Mrs Baker said that Homeless Connect was an initiative of the Sunshine Coast Housing and Homelessness Network and an acknowledgement of national Homelessness Prevention Week.

"The day forms part of a bigger day themed ‘Sock it to homelessness’ to also raise awareness in our community so we can work together to help those facing tough times.

"We are also taking donations of socks, jocks, clothing and blankets for those facing sleeping rough," she said.
