On 18 June, more than 1200 business, community and government leaders slept out across Australia, experiencing for one night what over 105,000 people face every night. Their commitment has highlighted homelessness in Australia and raised vital funds for Vinnies’ homeless services. Their fundraising will not only provide immediate and emergency assistance, but pathways to rediscovering a future full of potential. At the time of press, the total raised nationally was $6,341,869 thanks to more than 37,300 supporters.
In Queensland, we were proud to host two events in Brisbane and the inaugural Townsville event, raising over $860,000. The Brisbane event hosted a record 203 participants at the iconic Suncorp Stadium. The event attracted a wide selection of leaders for across the South East Queensland including Deputy Premier Jackie Trad, NRMA Insurance Broncos legend, Jharal Yow Yeh, Seven News Anchor, Bill McDonald, and Olympian, Shane Heal, who braved the plummeting mercury to support people in need.
We also witnessed wonderful support in Townsville with participants bravely facing a harsh night on the platform of the Old Queensland Railway Station.
