The Vinnies Cyclone Marcia Recovery Appeal launched following the devastating natural disaster. A generous $250,000 from the Queensland Government kick-started emergency relief to support the community to recover.
Thanks to an army of close to 300 Vinnies volunteers and members across Livingston, Rockhampton and Banana Shires, and donations, we were able to provide essential emergency services to 99 households, directly supporting 160 adults and 172 children. Funds provided the basics to those most devastated, including a new fridge for an elderly woman to store her life-saving medication after the storm ravaged her home.
State President John Forrest said that Vinnies was committed to assistance in the long-term recovery of people affected by the disaster. “We are on the ground and know our communities.
Vinnies will still be there offering assistance and friendship: helping people recover, their lives long after the initial crisis period is over,” he said.
