Vinnies' concerns over Sunday and public holiday penalty rates being reduced for full-time and part-time workers in the hospitality, retail and fast-food industries were outlined in a media release on 23 February.
National Council CEO Dr John Falzon described the Fair Work Commission ruling as ‘an attack on people who already struggle to survive.’
“Cutting penalty rates will not create jobs but it will build inequality,” he said.
The comments were picked up by media outlets across the country, including the Bellingen Courier (NSW mid-north coast, The Advocate (Tasmania), the Barrier Daily Truth (Broken Hill, NSW), the Northern Daily Leader (Tamworth, NSW), CathNews, the Tamborine Times and NewsMail.
Dr Falzon also spoke on ABC Radio outlets in Canberra, Sydney, Wagga Wagga, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Hobart, and Tamworth.
