Donate to the Vinnies Winter Appeal and help support Australians doing it tough

3 May 2022

Vinnies has launched its Winter Appeal and is asking for donations to support people experiencing disadvantage as well as women and children escaping domestic and family violence.

“The Vinnies Winter Appeal has launched and it will help us provide assistance to people experiencing disadvantage as well as women and children impacted by family and domestic violence,” St Vincent de Paul Society CEO, Jack de Groot, said.

“The Society operates 11 domestic violence services in NSW.

“Our assistance to women and children escaping domestic and family violence includes providing emergency accommodation, furniture and household goods, food and other essentials, and providing support to find and maintain secure housing.

“This is very important because thousands of women in NSW are estimated to currently be residing in violent homes because their only other choice is homelessness.

“In the past year, we assisted more than 2,400 women and children with crisis accommodation and case management support,” Mr de Groot said.

“Our members hear from people, every day, who are seeking support due to the many forms of disadvantage they are experiencing,” St Vincent de Paul NSW State Council President, Paul Burton, said.

“Life for all people on the margins becomes even more difficult as we come into winter.

“The cost of utility bills rises, there are additional expenses like warm clothing, and as we know food and petrol prices are soaring.

“This is why the Vinnies Winter Appeal is so important to help those doing it tough.

“Our people meet with people in need and understand the issues they face.

“In hundreds of communities across NSW, our members are providing food, clothing, help with household bills and other support, and offering a friendly ear to people in need.

“The funds donated to the Vinnies Winter Appeal will enable us to continue this practical and compassionate work, and will make a real difference to people’s lives at a time of tremendous need,” Mr Burton said.

Donations can be made at, on 13 18 12 and at all Vinnies Shops.

Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
