Back to School with Operation Backpack
18 February 2020
The beginning of a new school year is an exciting time for kids and parents alike. For those who are struggling to cover the basics, it can be a daunting occasion.
Thanks to the support of Lismore Shopping Square and the generosity of shoppers, we have been able to help local families start the 2020 school year with all the right tools for learning through Operation Backpack.
Shoppers at Lismore Shopping Square donated school supplies, helping primary-aged kids to start the school term with backpacks loaded with pens, pencils, textas, exercise books, lunch boxes and water bottles, to give every child with the opportunity to thrive in the classroom.
“Vinnies assists many local families who are doing it tough, and the recent fires have made life even more difficult. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped out,” said Linda Williams, Vinnies Special Works Manager for the region.
Returning bigger and better after a successful debut in partnership with Lismore Shopping Square last year, we worked with our network of local schools to offer priority assistance to families impacted by the recent bushfires that devastated parts of north-eastern New South Wales.
Operation Backpack is one of the many programs we run to help children experiencing disadvantage in our communities to have the same opportunities as their peers. To find out more our good works or to gain assistance, visit vinnies.org.au or call 13 18 12
