Registrations hit a high for CEO Sleepout
Registrations passed the 300 mark for Sydney’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout, with only five weeks to go. On 22 June this winter these CEOs will be sleeping outside raising funds for men, women and children experiencing homelessness in NSW.
Jack de Groot, CEO St Vincent de Paul Society NSW, will also be there, sleeping out for the first time. He is pleased to see such an encouraging response from CEOs and is hoping to see the number rise.
“These CEOs understand that without donations from the public, charities like Vinnies could not continue delivering much-needed services to those people at risk in the community,” says Mr de Groot.
“Our fundraising target for our twelfth year is $2.3 million. We are expecting great things from the CEOs–today 311 have signed up. Some of them are bringing their senior management teams along and we hope this will boost our targets significantly.
“The lack of affordable housing has resulted in far more people falling through the cracks and has increased the demand for our services. Homelessness doesn’t have a postcode. It can happen to anyone anywhere–poor health, the loss of a job, family breakdown plus a host of contributing factors can mean that there is no longer enough money to pay escalating rents and bills, and feed a family.
With the event being held at the Sydney Cricket Ground, many of the sporting codes will be represented: Todd Greenberg CEO NRL, David Thompson Hockey NSW, David Matthews Greater Western Sydney Giants, Sam Graham AFL NSW, Andrew Jones Cricket NSW, Ross Xenos Rugby Union Players Association, and GM Kelle Storey Sydney Swans.
Media organisations are also more represented than ever before with CEOs Nicholas Gray The Australian, Hugh Marks Nine Network, Mia Freedman and Kylie Rodgers MamaMia, and John Jo Eastwood Huffington Post.
ASX200 companies include Brad Banducci Woolworths, Marcus Laithwaite PwC, and James Brindley Lion.
